The Truth We Chase
Joseph Ryebank swapped the hushed suburban streets of South Manchester for the intensity of New York, bringing with him only three things: his possessions, his girlfriend, and a secret.
Over several years, Joe quietly and meticulously rebuilt his life, intent on staying hidden from the past he believed he'd left behind.
Then, without warning, the past returns. There is no explanation, no preamble—just an email with the subject line ‘Meet me…?’ signed off by his closest childhood friend, Jill, who vanished the night his life shattered.

Stockport-born writer Carl Richards took a distinct route to authorship, a journey that carried him from Greater Manchester to the bustling streets of New York and New Jersey. This transatlantic perspective profoundly shapes his introspective, emotionally grounded voice.
At the heart of his storytelling is the constant tension between leaving and belonging. Having absorbed the sheer scale of the American Tri-State area, he brings a vivid, cinematic eye to his depictions of Manchester life, uncovering the extraordinary within the everyday.
Now back in the North West on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, Carl spends much of his time outdoors. He is a frequent wanderer through the rugged beauty of his local landscape and the dramatic hills of the Peak District, with the Goyt Valley being a particularly cherished spot.
